TRANSPED launches the 1st Newsletter:
Dear colleagues, At last, our Newsletter goes arround the world ! I have been thinking about the content of this newsletter time after time ( something interesting, amusing and easy to read....how to do it ? ) With this monthly email, we aim to give you an overview of SPAIN (transport, economy, business, culture, leisure, sports....). We will accept your comments and suggestions about our news and, if you are intersted about any kind of news we will take note for the next newsletter.
We really wish you enjoy it! Regards,
Maria Garcia /Overseas Manager SPAIN: Country profile Not only is Spain the eighth most important economy in the world; it is also the eighth biggest investor and the ninth recipient of FDI. The continued dynamism of its economy is shown by its growth in recent years: ahead of the European average (3.9% in 2006 compared with 2.9% in the EU-25 and 2.8% in the euro-zone).
Time for central bankers to take Spanish lessons: Not many banks have emerged from recent events with their reputations intact. Santander might be the exception that proves the rule. A decade ago the bank was barely known outside Spain's business community or Latin America. Now it is emerging as one of the more savvy survivors of Europe's banking storm. Not only is Santander snapping up cut-price assets (such as the juiciest parts of Bradford & Bingley) but it has also avoided the credit horrors that have triggered the humiliation of so many other mighty European names. And while that sunny vista might yet change - after all, not even bankers seem truly to know what their banks hold these days - Santander's run looks doubly remarkable given that Spain is in the aftermath of a property boom. |

Spain Fights Exclusion from Crisis Summit: The Spanish government is taking strong diplomatic actions, calling on its fellow members of the European Union, Latin American leaders, Asian nations and even the United States presidential candidates, with the aim of not being left out of the financial anti-crisis summit scheduled for Nov. 15 in Washington
Spain was not included in U.S. President George W. Bush’s
invitation to the governments of the world’s leading economies and the
larger emerging countries from the developing South -- a decision seen by
Spain as a veto against the socialist government of José Luís Rodríguez
Zapatero. Spanish Weekend Football Round Up: Valencia stay top with a draw, but Barcelona and Real Madrid both win.
